Korwin Zehr is the manager of Rock Stable Meats LLC. He is a co-owner with his brother Marcus and his father Jon. This is the history of Rock Stable Meats.

In 1944 C. L. Ressler (Jon’s great-grandfather, Korwin & Marcus’s great-great-granfather) purchased 929 acres in southern Campbell County, Virginia, on Covered Bridge Road. The original deed referred to the property as “Airy Mont,” but after the purchase, the farm was referred to as “Rock Stable Farm” because a rock stable sat near Covered Bridge Road.

The farmhouse now sits on this site.

Further from the road sat a weather-beaten 18th century house, but since there were no other farm buildings on the farm, C. L. installed a sawmill and cut trees on his land and sawed the lumber to build a dairy barn.

C. L. began shipping milk in about 1948.  Through the years the farm was passed down through the generations and ended up in the hands of Jon’s brother Glen. By 2015 or so Glen was milking 300 cows, but the dairy industry was becoming increasingly volatile.

In November of 2018, in an attempt to diversify, Glen decided to get a steer slaughtered and sell the meat under the name of Rock Stable Meats. He also raised several pigs and pork was added to the selection. The dairy was sold in February of 2019, and in August Glen decided to move out of the area, at which time he sold his portion of Rock Stable Meats to his nephews, Korwin and Marcus, with Korwin taking over managerial responsibilities.

Korwin and Marcus had each been raising several steers to sell each year for the past number of years. They then their time to raising animals for Rock Stable Meats. These animals were raised on a portion of the original 929 acres that CL had bought back in 1944. They found it fairly enjoyable watching the animals transform over the months from cute, friendly babies to calm, elderly statesmen that are not sure what to make of these younger ones that get moved into the pen. Having the steers and several dairy cows scratched the itch of farming even though the dairy had been sold. Over the years, as responsibilities elsewhere have grown, the ability to raise as many high quality animals as necessary grew small.

The Airy Mont Farm land was bought by a good friend of ours, Myron Yoder. He revamped the home place, and started his own dairy, Havenwood Farms LLC. They now milk 100 Jersey cows, and raise the majority of the calves they have. Here entered a perfect partnership. Myron was able to raise prime beef under the same specifications that we had been doing so, and we needed the help. Hence, the beef is being raised on the main original farmland, as it has been ever since C.L. Ressler moved to Virginia.

We desire to effectively and efficiently continue to raise beef and pork in the best, most healthy way possible, with the purpose of providing you with healthy, tasty, high quality beef and pork.
